Buying Tips
Soo, I finally neighed and snuggled you enough that you finally decided I can live where you live. Thank goodness, I would much prefer to be around you all the time then away from you and some dirty barn, and besides I will be much closer to those beloved carrots and peppermints. But, before we take this plunge together there are many important factors that we need to consider before we look for our new home. I know that I am as excited as you are but we need to do our homework and make a smart decision for both of our futures.
At the last show I had a chance to meet a lot of my brothers and sisters and we got a chance to discuss what are ideal home would be. We all agreed that the following 7 points should be considered when looking for our home.
1) We need to decide collectively on what our current needs are regarding a home. Do we need to expand in the future? Am I going to get that brother or sister that I've been wanting? Maybe a little extra room to stretch my legs? All important decisions!
2) What's our budget. I know your the one with all the carrots but I have a neigh also. don't I. Are we going to build a home for you and I? Don't forget the hay barn...can't be too careful with my food. How about fences? I do tend to wander sometime.
3) If we do decide to build, where we will live in the interim. I know it's easy for you to find a temporary place but it is not always easy for me. Please don't forget about my friends..you know those other 4 legged friends, the ones that tend to bark and meow. They need temporary housing too. Maybe we should buy an existing property and expand?
4) We need to decide what are ideal parameters are. I know what mine are, but of course unlimited pasture is probably asking a lot. Oh well I thought I would throw that in...lottery. But seriously, I do not want you to be that far from me so we need to look at commute time. Do we need to be close to mass transportation?
5) Politics and bureaucracy...Cities and counties have all kinds of regulations and zoning laws. Life was so much easier in the old days. We need to find out if and how many of the herd can be on any given property. You will need to ask Val, our equestrian/residential expert...she can get all the answers for us.
6) Now I don't want to be picky, and I'm not talking about my hoofs, but a rolling pasture with some trees and a creek or pond would be great. Imagine the fun you will be having as I frolic through our property. Alright back down to pasture....we do need to consider the topography. Lowlands are not good for my pasture nor are they good for your house. Of course like anything the prettier the property the more premium the price. I think we can come to a compromise.
7) Lets get picky, that hoof thing again. Do we have any special needs? How about stall sizes? I would love a penthouse...but I will settle just to be closer to you. Will we need separate stallion or foaling areas. How about hot water? Bubble bath this winter? Hay, how about an indoor heated arena.
These are all things we need consider. So...are we ready to jump in? Let's give Val a call today!
